Holi, the Festival of Colors

홀리, 색상의 축제

Holi is the most popular festival in my country.

홀리는 우리나라에서 가장 인기 있는 축제에요

It is usually in March.

보통 3월에 있어요

During the festival, we say goodbye to cold winter and hello to warm spring.

축제 기간 동안 우리는 추운 겨울과 작별하고 따뜻한 봄에게 인사를 해요

We celebrate the festival everywhere for two days.

우리는 이틀 동안 어디에서나 축제를 기념해요

On the first day, people gather around a big fire at night and sing and dance.

첫째 날, 사람들은 밤에 큰 불 주위에 모여 노래하고 춤을 춰요

The main event begins the next day.

다음 날에 본 행사가 시작되요

Children and adults chase each other with gulal.

아이들과 어른들이 '굴랄'을 가지고 서로를 쫓아가요

What is gulal?

굴랄이 뭐냐고요?

It is blue, yellow, green and pink powder.

그것은 파란색, 노란색, 녹색 그리고 분홍색 분말이에요

 

It’s a lot of fun to run around and throw colorful powder at everyone.

뛰어다니면서 모두에게 형형색색의 가루를 던지는 게 참 재미있어요

We also join street parades!

우리는 거리 행진(퍼레이드)에도 참가해요!

Every summer, this amazing thing happens in my hometown.

During that time, we hold the White Nights Festival.

It usually starts in May and lasts for about a month.

During the festival, there is a ballet or an opera almost every night.

The most popular event is the Scarlet Sails celebration.

A boat with red sails slowly appears on the river.

Soon, fireworks begin and a water show follows.

You can also hear musicians playing beautiful live music.

Winter is my favorite season because of the Kiruna Snow Festival.

겨울은 키루나 눈 축제 때문에 제가 가장 좋아하는 계절이에요

The festival starts in the last week of January and goes on for five or six days.

축제는 1월 마지막 주에 시작해서 5일 혹은 6일 동안 계속되요

The largest event is the snow design competition.

가장 큰 이벤트는 눈 디자인 대회예요

The artists shape huge piles of snow into animals, buildings, and other beautiful artworks.

예술가들은 거대한 눈더미를 동물, 건물, 그리고 다른 아름다운 예술품들로 만들어요

People watch the artists shaping their works from beginning to end.

사람들은 예술가들이 그들의 작품을 만드는 것을 처음부터 끝까지 봐요

My favorite activity is the dog sled ride.

제가 가장 좋아하는 활동은 강아지 썰매 타기예요

It is amazing to fly through a world of snow on a dog sled.

개썰매를 타고 눈의 세계를 날아다니는 것은 놀라운 일이에요
