Where Is Daddy?

아빠는 어디에 계시나요?

My name is Jimmy.

제 이름은 지미예요.

I am in the eighth grade and my sister, Hope, is in the third grade.

저는 8학년이고 동생인 호프는 3학년이예요.

My father is a banker and my mother is a teacher.

우리 아빠는 은행원이시고 엄마는 선생님이세요.

We have a dog, Smiley.

저희는 스마일리라는 강아지 한마리가 있어요.

Sounds pretty normal, right?

꽤 평범하게 들리죠?

But, a crazy thing happened last week.

그런데, 지난 주에 이상한 일이 일어났어요.

My father usually comes home late from work.

아빠는 보통 직장에서 집에 늦게 와요.

So, we only see him on the weekends.

그래서, 우리는 아빠를 주말에만 볼 수 있어요.

Even then, he usually sleeps or watches television.

심지어 그때도 아빠는 주로 잠을 자거나 텔레비전을 봐요.

But last Friday, he came home early for dinner.

하지만 지난 금요일에, 아빠가 저녁을 먹기 위해 일찍 집에 왔어요.

At the table, we were all doing our own thing.

식탁에서, 우리는 모두 우리 자신의 일을 하고 있었어요.

Hope was giving food to Smiley.

호프는 스마일리에게 음식을 주고 있었어요.

My mother was telling her not to do so.

엄마는 호프에게 그러지 말라고 말씀하고 계셨어요.

I was texting.

나는 문자를 하고 있었어요.

My father said, “Pass me the bread, please.”

아빠가 "빵 좀 건내줘"라고 말씀하셨어요.

No one heard him, so he asked again, 

아무도 아빠의 말을 듣지 않아서, 아빠가 다시 요청했어요. 

“Can someone pass me the bread?”

"누군가가 나에게 빵을 건내 줄 수 있니?"

I heard him this time, but I was too busy with my phone.

이번에 제가 아빠 말을 들었지만, 휴대폰 때문에 너무 바빴어요.

My mother was yelling, “Don’t feed Smiley!”

엄마는 "스마일리에게 먹이를 주지마!"라고 소리치고 계셨어요.

Hope was feeding Smiley.

호프가 스마일리에게 먹이를 주고 있었어요.

Smiley was jumping up and down.

스마일리는 위아래로 펄쩍펄쩍 뛰고 있었어요.

My father shouted, “Am I invisible?

아빠가 소리쳤어요. "내가 안보여?

Pass me the bread!”

빵 좀 줘!"

Then, it happened.

그리고 나서, 일이 일어났어요.

Poof!

휙!

My father disappeared like magic.

아빠가 마법처럼 사라졌어요.

He became invisible!

아빠가 안보여요!

We could hear him, but we couldn’t see him.

우리는 아빠의 말을 들을 수 있었지만 볼 수 없었어요.

We asked, “Where are you?”

우리는 "어디에 계세요?"라고 물었어요.

“I’m right in front of you,” he replied.

"나는 바로 너 앞에 있어."라고 아빠가 대답했어요.

We couldn’t do anything for him.

우리는 아빠를 위해 아무 것도 할 수 없었어요.

It was an awful night.

끔찍한 밤이었어요.

Next morning, we went to the hospital and asked the doctor to help us.

다음날 아침, 우리는 병원에 가서 의사에게 우리를 도와달라고 요청했어요.

I said, “He has been invisible since last night.”

나는 "아빠가 어젯밤부터 보이지 않아요."고 말했습니다.

The doctor shook his head and said, 

의사는 그의 머리를 흔들며 말했어요, 

“I can't help you. I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

"저는 도와드릴 수가 없어요. 이런 건 전에 본 적이 없어요."

When we came home, Hope said, “I miss Daddy.”

우리가 집에 왔을 때, 호프가 "아빠 보고 싶어." 라고 말했어요.

She started crying.

호프가 울기 시작했어요.

My mother joined her.

엄마도 호프와 함께 했어요.

In a few moments, we were a sea of tears.

잠시 후, 우리는 눈물의 바다였습니다.

“Come back, Dad!

"돌아와요, 아빠!

I promise to pass you the bread every day!”

제가 아빠에게 빵을 매일 건네줄 것을 약속할게요!"

I cried.

나는 울었어요.

Then, it happened.

그리고, 일이 일어났습니다.

My father appeared again!

아빠가 다시 나타났어요!

He hugged us and said, 

아빠는우리를 끌어안고 이렇게 말했어요. 

“Thank you for all the attention.

"모든 관심을 줘서 고마워.

I promise to come home earlier and play with you on the weekends.”

좀 더 일찍 집에 오고, 주말에 너희들과 같이 놀아주겠다고 약속할게."
